Chief Minister, Dr. Pramod Sawant chaired a high-level meeting with key industry stakeholders to deliberate on Goa’s evolving manpower and skilling requirements.

The Chief Minister highlighted the job opportunities available in the State with the industry stakeholders lamenting lack of manpower. He also stated that the meeting has brought about solutions to tackle the issues surrounding shortage of Goan workforce.

Representatives from the Pharmaceutical, Shipping, Tourism, Automobile, and service sectors along with various industrial associations, took part in the deliberations.

Dr Sawant emphasised that apprentices should be regularised if industries need their service beyond the apprenticeship period. He also told industries to ensure minimum wages are paid while there is a proposal to revise minimum wages for highly skilled workers. A commitment was forged to address transportation challenges faced by the rural workforce commuting to industrial hubs. The Chief Minister also added that the industries have been asked not to appoint contractor from outside Goa; as a Goan contractor will be able to rope in employees from the State.

Revenue and Labour Minister Atanasio Monserrate, Chief Secretary, Labour Commissioner, EPFO officials were present for the meeting.
