JOY KAKODKAR & NETRA SAVAIKAR TOP AT 44TH CHESS OLYMPIAD PROMOTIONAL EVENT

PANAJI: Joy Kakodkar of Sharada Mandir and Netra Savaikar of Almeida School, respectively, won the Goa State School U-15 Open & Girls Rapid Rating Chess 2022 event which was conducted for the promotion of  44th Chess Olympiad to be held in Chennai from 28th July to 10th August. Joy Kakodkar and Ethan Vaz in Open; Netra Savaikar and Asmita Ray in Girls category; will get a chance to visit the 44th Chess Olympiad, states a press release.

Joy scored 8 points from 9 rounds while Netra remained undefeated, scoring 9 out of 9 rounds. Brother duo of Ethan and Edrick Vaz (Kings School) scored 7.5 points each. However, Ethan stood second while Edrick secured third place in the Open category based on tie-break score.

In the girls category, Asmita Ray of Kendriya Vidyalaya finished second with 8 points while Diya Sawal of Manovikas School, was placed in the third position.

Other prize-winners in Open category are as follows:  4th to 25th position – Vivaan Ballikar, Sairudra Nagvekar, Aniket Ekka, Harsh Nagvekar, Hriday Morajkar, Atharv Nitin Narayan, Chaitanya Gaonkar, Nawal Sawant, Sairaj Narvekar, Ruthvik Raikar, Vedant Angle, Kavish Borkar, Love Kakodkar, Avaneesh Sawant, Saras Powar, Sarvang Padi, Raghav Lad, Aarth Shenvi Karapurkar, Erwin Albuquerque, Abhir Prabhu, Shubh Borker and Shreyash Hawal.

The other prize-winners in Girls category are as follows: 4th to 25th position – Arya Dabolkar, Alana Andrade, Shriya Patil, Vaishnavi Parab, Arya Dublay, Valanka Fernandes, Lyia Silveira, Jennica Sequeira, Saeeja Dessai, Shree Ghonsekar, Pushti Bhonsle, Shubra Acharya, Aarvi Naik, Sayyed Mahadiya, Navya Narvekar, Shrama Morudkar, Riddhi Gaude, Sachi Gayak, Ridima Parab Jensina Sequreira, Siddhi Naik and Sayyed Maizah.

Ridhima Parab from Government School Pernem has been selected in Girls category but no player from Govt School made it to the Open category, added the press note.

Grandmaster Anurag Mhamal was the chief guest and gave away the prizes in the presence of Vilas Satarkar, Head Master of Dr K B Hedgewar High School, Tournament Director Mahesh Candolkar, among other dignitaries.

The tournament was organised by TTCA under the auspices of Goa Chess Ad-hoc Committee, All India Chess Federation  in collaboration with DR K B Hedgewar High School.
