Maharashtra archers won gold medal in the Compound (men and women) and Recurve women’s category to complete a dominant outing at the two-day Khelo India-NTPC Zonal Open Archery Tournament organised by Amateur Archery Association Goa under the aegis of Archery Association of India and in collaboration with Sports Authority of Goa at Campal ground here on Friday.
In the Compound finals, Manav Jadhao edged out his state-mate Ajit Shriram 145-144 in the men’s section; while Mahek Pathan got the better of Goa’s Subbiksha VK 148-145 in the women’s gold-medal match.
In the Recurve finals, Rajasthan’s Rahul Kumar Nagarwal overcame a strong resistance from Maharashtra’s Lakhan Bhoi after a tie in the men’s gold medal match. In the women’s section, Maharashtra’s Sakshi Tote prevailed over Meena Kumari Chaturvedi of Rajasthan.
Apart from the Silver medal for Subbiksha, Goa also saw encouraging fourth-place finishes for Monika in Recurve event and Saurabh Pandey in the Compound competition of the Western zone tournament.
Rajasthan’s Mahesh Kumawat clinched a bronze medal while Maharashtra’s Sharvari Shende finished third in the men’s and women’s Recurve event respectively.
Over in the Compound event, the bronze medals went to Aditya Gadadhe of Maharashtra and Supyar of Rajasthan in the men’s and women’s category respectively.
High Performance Director of Khelo India Panaji- Goa Centre, Sumith Mohan Rajeshwari was the chief guest and presented the prizes along with Amateur Archery Association Goa President Kiran Kandolkar, Secretary Chetan Kavlekar and other dignitaries.
