Maharashtra & Goa Postal Circle released a special cancellation to commemorate the remarkable achievement of Gukesh D, who in an intense Game 14 of FIDE World Chess Championship 2024, defeated Ding Liren to claim the title, making history as the youngest world champion. The special cancellation was released by Amitabh Singh, Chief Postmaster General, Maharashtra & Goa Circle, at an event held in Goa on Friday, 13.12.2024.
The special cancellation was released as a philatelic tribute to Gukesh D’s outstanding talent, dedication, and perseverance, which have made him a pride of the nation.
Speaking on the occasion, Amitabh Singh said, “Gukesh’s achievement is an inspiration to millions of young Indians. We are proud to honor him through this special cancellation, which will be a lasting tribute to his remarkable achievement.”
Jayati Samaddar, General Manager, Finance, Circle Office, Mumbai; Adnan Ahmed, Postmaster General, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar; R K Jayabhaye, Postmaster General, Pune Region; Suchita Joshi, Postmaster General, Navi Mumbai Region; and other senior officers of the Maharashtra Postal circle were present on the occassion.
The special cancellation will be available at all the bureaus in Maharashtra & Goa Circle and can be obtained by philatelists and chess enthusiasts.
