Mandar Pradip Lad emerged the champion of Unity Club’s 2nd Open Rapid Chess Tournament 2024.
In the 8th roundon the top board, Mandar Pradip Lad (2028) defeated Joshua Mark Telles (1727) to take his tally to 7.5 points and clinch the top prize of Rs. 6000 and a trophy. Devesh Anand Naik (1863) managed to outwit Anish Naik (1700) on the second board to finish runner-up with 7.5 points based on tie-break score. He was awarded a cash prize of Rs. 5000 and trophy. Chaitanya Gaonkar (1748) got the better of Aryan Shamrao Raikar (1721) in the final round to finish 3rd with 7 points. He was awarded a cash prize of Rs. 4000 and a trophy. On the 4th board, Kambli Datta (1754) defeated Rishit Gawas (1531) to finish 4th with 6.5 points and he was awarded a cash prize of Rs. 2000 and a trophy. Siddhiraj Gaunkar (1526) managed to outwit Arthav Shirodker (1610) in the final round to finish 5th with 6.5 points. He was awarded a cash prize of Rs. 1500 and a trophy. Joshua Mark Telles (1727) finished 6th with 6 points. He was awarded a cash prize of Rs. 1250 and a trophy.
IA Ashesh Keni was the Chief Arbiter of the tournament, which attracted 174 players from across the state.
