CSIR–National Institute of Oceanography (CSIR-NIO), Goa, organised a two-day National Science Seminar in Hindi on the theme Contribution of Marine Research in India’s Development and Future Prospects, on its campus at Dona Paula.
The Chief Guest, Prof. Dr. Sujata Kadam, Dean of the All India Institute of Ayurveda, Goa Campus, highlighted the importance of Ayurveda in lifestyle and shared the activities being carried out by her institution.
The Guest of Honour, Dr. Ramanuj Narayan, Director, CSIR-IMMT, Bhubaneswar, underlined the significance of organising such scientific seminars and acknowledged the contributions of CSIR institutions, particularly CSIR-NIO, to national development.
Dr. Arun Deo Singh, Senior Professor, Department of Geology, Banaras Hindu University, delivered a talk on the utility of microfossils in ocean exploration.
CSIR-NIO Director Prof. Sunil Kumar Singh spoke about the vast opportunities available in ocean science, explaining how research outcomes can support socio-economic growth and contribute to nation-building.
Dr. Asha B. Gehlot, Member, Hindi Language Advisory Committee, NITI Aayog, Government of India, and Head, Department of Hindi & former Vice-Principal (Academic), Government College, Khandola, Goa, attended the valedictory function as Chief Guest.
In her address, she stressed the importance of organising such conferences in Hindi and other Indian languages, noting that this will help disseminate scientific research to society and make a meaningful contribution to the blue economy.
The seminar featured four scientific sessions covering Chemical Oceanography, Biological Oceanography, Geological Oceanography, and Physical Oceanography & Ocean Engineering.
A total of 34 oral presentations and 20 poster presentations were delivered, with the participation of over 150 delegates from 12 institutions across the country.
