POORVA BHAIDKAR POWERS DM’S COLLEGE TO TITLE VICTORY, METALI GAWANDER NAMED PLAYER-OF-THE TOURNAMENT

DM’s College-Assagao crushed Don Bosco College-Panjim by 130 runs to win the Inter-Collegiate Cricket Championship for Women 2022-23 organised by Goa University at University Ground, Taleigao-Plateau.

In the final on Monday, DM’s College won the toss and batted first to post a mammoth and record total of 226/4 in 20 overs. Poorva Bhaidkar provided the thrust to their innings with a sensational century, scoring 123 runs in 73 balls. Metali Gawander chipped in with the bat, scoring 21 runs off 16 balls.

Don Bosco College bowling department suffered largely due to the brilliance of their rivals. Nevertheless, Arpita Sawant and Aniksha Morajkar shared the wickets to fall.

Don Bosco College never looked like they had the ammunition to go the distance and in the end they were restricted to 96/6 in 20 overs. Anita Choudhary scored 29 runs off 38 balls while Sonam Mhalsekar scored 10 off 24 balls. Metali Gawander of DM’s College took 3 wickets giving away 16 runs. Ridah Shaikh picked up one wicket.

Prof. Vrinda Pradip S. Borker, Principal of Dhempe College of Arts and Science, Miramar, was the chief guest and presented the trophies. Following individual prizes were awarded: Best Batter: Poorva Bhaidkar (DM’s college). Best Bowler: Amisha Lotlikar (Don Bosco College). Player of the tournament: Metali Gawander (DM’s College).

In all, 14 women’s teams participated in the championship.

DM’s College team: Nikit Naik, Samiksha Raul, Reshma Rathod, Laxmi Chawan, Purvaja Rathod, Urvashi Govekar, Poorva Bhaidkar, Roshni Parab Mayekar, Metali Gawander, Savitrikumari Kumavat, Sanjana Malvankar, Srilekha Yadla, Ridah Shaikh.
