Defending champions Rosary College of Commerce and Arts, Navelim, edged past St. Xavier’s College, Mapusa, 1-0 to win the Inter-collegiate Women’s Football Championship 2023–24, organised by Goa University.
Rosary College thus registered a hat-trick of titles at Goa University’s Inter-Collegiate Women’s Football Championships as they had been champions in 2019-20 and 2022-23, before their latest triumph.
Rosary College started with an attacking intent and dominated play in the first half, having more ball possession. The first goal was scored in the 7th minute by Rhea Pires. In the second half, Rosary College with a strong attacking approach and sensible play, had chances to score but most of the shots were off-target.
St Xavier’s College also combined for some attacking play but were kept at bay by the strong defence of Rosary College.
The prize for the ‘best player of the championship’ was awarded to Rhea Pires of Rosary College of Commerce and Arts, Navelim.

Goa Football Association president Dr. Caitano Fernandes was the chief guest. Milton Fernandes, Former Asst. Director of Physical Education and Sports, Goa University, was the guest of honour. Collin Vaz, former member of Goa Football Development Council, Dr. Francis Lobo, College Director of Physical Education and Sports, Rosary College along with Balachandra B. Jadar, Asst. Director of Physical Education and Sports, Goa University, graced the valedictory function and presented medals and trophies.
