Sunshine, Don Bosco Panjim, Loyola, and Don Bosco Fatorda emerged victorious on the opening day of the Sonics U17 Basketball League 2025, organized by the Sonics Sports & Cultural Youth Club in aegis with the Goa Basketball Association. The league, played in an exciting format aimed at promoting youth basketball talent across Goa, witnessed fast-paced matches and impressive displays of skill, teamwork, and sportsmanship on the opening day of action at Youth Hostel, Miramar.
Game 1 saw Don Bosco Fatorda (DBF) open their campaign on a strong note, defeating Navy Children’s School (NCS) 28–15 in a well-contested encounter. Sean (8 pts) and Arjun (7 pts) were the top scorers of the opening game. In Game 2, Sunshine edged Kamikaze 33–32 in one of the most thrilling matches of the day. Devyansh (10 pts) and Afzal (12 pts) were the top scorers.
Game 3 featured a commanding performance by Loyola, who defeated Ponda 25–05, Conrad (8 pts) and Anurag (5 pts), being the standout players. Game 4 belonged to Don Bosco Panjim, who overwhelmed Lourdes 50–17 in a dominant display of attacking basketball. Nathaniel (10 pts) and Tanish (8 pts) stood out with their consistent scoring and teamwork for their respective teams. Rounding off the day, Game 5 saw Sunshine notch their second win, outclassing Brown Ballers 36–16 with Devyansh (15 pts) once again leading from the front, and Faaz (5 pts) scoring for his team.
Earlier, the tournament was inaugurated by Sandeep Heble, Vice President of the Goa Basketball Association, in the presence of organising members Andriel Fernandes and Lambert Godinho, among others. With an energetic start marked by competitive games and standout performances, the Sonics U17 Basketball League 2025 scheduled during the Diwali vacations promises to be a thrilling showcase of Goa’s emerging basketball talent.
