STATE ATHLETICS CHAMPIONSHIPS BEGIN AT BAMBOLIM STADIUM, RCC FATORDA MAKE STRONG START

Padma Bhushan Manohar Parrikar State Athletics Championships 2023 commenced at Bambolim athletics stadium on Monday morning.

The 54th edition of the championships organised by the Goa Athletics Association under the aegis of Athletics Federation of India in collaboration with Sports Authority of Goa, has received an overwhelming response with 1400 athletes in participation from over 80 institutions from all over Goa. A total of 178 competitions will be conducted over two days across eight age-categories right from under-8 to under-20, and for seniors (men and women). Due to the Covid Pandemic, the state championship was not held in the last three years.

Goa State BJP president Sadanand Shet Tanawade was the chief guest and declared the championships open in the presence of other dignitaries.

A formidable unit in state athletics circuit,
Regional Coaching Centre (RCC) Fatorda bagged the first two events of the day with Kumar Mangal and Sapna Patel taking the gold medals in men’s and women’s 1500m run respectively.

Results:

1500m Men -Gold medal – Kumar Mangal 4.22 (RCC Fatorda), Meena Vishnu (RCC Bambolim), Kumar Bind Ajay (RCC Fatorda).

Women – Sapna Patel 4.57 (RCC Fatorda)
Sunita Kumar (RCC Peddem)
Sapna Gaonkar (Mallikarjun College).

Long Jump – Men: Gold medal – Pillai Ananth Krishnan 6.85m (RCC Bambolim), Naik Sairaj (RCC Peddem), Chopde Omkar (RCC Peddem).

Shut Put
Gold medal – Fernandes Keenon (RCC Peddem) 11.71m; Gain Bhaskear (United Athletes), Yamnur (RCC Bambolim).

U16 80m Hurdles
Girls- Gold medal –  Gawas Dimple 16.87 (RCC Bambolim), Prajusha Naik, Renuka Oli. Boys – Gold Medal – Ranendra Chari 13.32 (Govt HS Honda), Fernandes Jayden, Kerkar Dishant.
