A Drishti Marine lifesaver sustained dog bites at Benaulim beach over the weekend, even as lifesavers of the state government-appointed agency came to the aid of a 52-year-old beachgoer at Majorda beach who was also attacked by stray dogs. The weekend witnessed one double rescue, two incidents involving first aid administration and four cases of missing articles traced along Goa’s coastline.

Morjim beach: Two male tourists from Maharashtra, aged 27 and 54 years, got trapped in a flash rip current while enjoying the waters off Morjim. Upon seeing their plight, Drishti Marine lifesaver Pramod Mahale rushed to help them. Soon, lifesavers Tanaji and Vinod Salelkar arrived at the scene on a jetski and brought the victims back to shore safely.

Calangute beach: A missing bag was found at Calangute beach by lifesavers Suraj Sawant and Sagar Kuttikar during their last patrol before beach closure. They handed it over to a police official on duty, who later returned it to the owners after they came looking for the bag on the beach.

Majorda beach: A 52-year-old man was attacked by a stray dog while on a beach walk. He sustained bite injuries on his back. Supervisor Devendra Gaude, who was present nearby, rushed to his assistance. The victim was taken to the lifesaver tower and administered first aid. He was advised to consult a doctor for further medical attention.

Colva beach: A 25-year-old watersports operator at Colva beach sustained a leg injury after a boat engine cut him when the vessel overturned due to high waves. Drishti Marine personnel administered first aid on site and advised him to seek further medical attention. In a separate incident at the same beach, beach marshal Salma Shaikh found an unattended bag around closing time and kept it at the nearby lifesaver tower for safekeeping. The bag was later returned to its rightful owner after verification by the Goa Police.

Benaulim beach: Drishti Marine lifesaver Sagar Gaude was attacked by four dogs while on duty at the beach. The dogs approached him from behind and one bit his right leg. He was sent to hospital for treatment. Two months ago, lifesaver captain Cleyton Vaz was also attacked by stray dogs at the same beach. In another incident, while on routine patrol, Drishti Marine personnel Suraj Joshi and Sarvesh Gaonkar found a set of cards, including a debit card and a government ID, on the beach. The ID appeared to belong to a Kazakhstan national. The lifesavers began searching for the owner by informing shack owners and tourists in the vicinity. The cards were later handed over to the rightful owner after following handover protocol.

Palolem beach: A 78-year-old German tourist developed breathing issues while sitting near the shore. The discomfort was noticed by Drishti Marine lifesavers, who rushed to his aid, placed him in the recovery position and administered oxygen. They later contacted the ambulance service and handed him over for further care. The tourist was taken to a government hospital in Margao for treatment.

Galgibaga beach: During a routine beach closing exercise, lifesaver Pravin Sangekar found a lost mobile phone. While in possession of the device, he received a call from the owner. After following confirmation protocol, the phone was returned to its owner.
