SYMBIOTIC RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN CHICKENS & BEES WORKS FOR ‘RAIKA HONEY’

PANAJI: Displaying a fantastic symbiotic relationship between chickens and bees, Goa-based ‘Raika Honey’ has brushed off the speculation to the contrary.

The Benaulim-based honey producers have posted an informative video on its YouTube channel.

“Chickens are wonderful at cleaning up the areas around the hive, bee debris and dead bees. They also eat live bugs, Waxmoth larvae and small hive beetles that can cause harm to the honeybees. When frames of the old honeycomb are shared, chickens enjoy cleaning up the debris.

“A lot of people think bees can’t be mixed with chickens but we have done it for years without any issues. The chickens do a great job keeping pests away from the bee hives,” claims Suprajit Raikar, proprietor of ‘Raika Honey.’
