TAMBDI MAATI FOUNDATION: ‘MAP AND BUILD TOGETHER’ ECOLOGY WORKSHOP IN MALVAN

0

Goa-based Tambdi Maati Foundation (TMF) held its first ‘Map and Build Together’ workshop on 30th and 31st August at Chafekhol plateau in Malvan. The workshop saw young architects, students and participants come together to build a temporary structure with bamboo.

TMF is a natural building and environmental stewardship initiative focussed on the Konkan region, started by Goan architect Tallulah Dsilva, architect Ahana Rao from Gokarna, and advocate Omkar Keni from Malvan, each representing their respective state within the Konkan region.

TMF is building a collective of artisans, youth, and professionals to preserve traditional building practices. Their focus is on skill-building, livelihood creation, and promoting affordable, sensitive
design.

The young participants seemed to have benefited deeply from the workshop. Architectural intern Rahuman Khalil from Coimbatore said,  “During our extensive walk on the plateau, I observed that the boundaries of three villages were marked simply by stones, showing that people living on the land built a
living community, not dead boundaries.”

While, architect Kaniksha Bandodkar from Goa said, “Building a bamboo structure for the community was a rewarding experience that not only showcased the versatility of sustainable materials but also brought people together, fostering a sense of unity and pride in our shared space.”
