Darsh Pai and Tithee Bhoomkar bagged double crown, winning the under-14 and under-18 titles each; while Tejas Shevde and Manuela Gomes cruised to men’s and women’s singles title victory respectively at the 1st TNS Panjim Gymkhana all-Goa tennis tournament under the aegis of Goa State Tennis Association.
Darsh Pai brushed off the challenge of Vivaan Agarwal 4-1, 4-0 in U-14 final before getting the better of Gauraang Phutankar 6-3, 6-3 in the boys under-18 event.
Tithee outplayed her friend Vidhi Naik 4-1, 4-0 for the U-14 trophy before facing some resistance in the U-18 final for a 6-4, 6-4 triumph.
The men’s and women’s title clashes were one-sided affairs as Tejas Shevde demolished Suraj Sadanah 6-0, 6-1 in the early morning encounter before Manuela Gomes outclassed Tanya Shelyazhynska-Caldeira 6-1, 6-0 in the evening.
Elsewhere, Rajendra Godinho (Bulu) made it a memorable outing for himself with a triple crown in his bag. Bulu and Richard Lockhart Smith clinched the men’s doubles title in a hard-fought final against Sachin Dukle and Rajaram Kundaikar 5-7, 6-3, with Sachin retiring due to cramps when both pairs were 1-set all.
In mixed-doubles, Bulu and Tanya Shelyazhynska-Caldeira downed Santosh Gorawar and Archana Desai 4-0, 4-2 in the final. Bulu and Mano Chhabra defeated Sachin Dukle and Kevin Rebello 7-6, 7-5 in 45+ doubles title clash.
In other results, the 45+ singles trophy was bagged by Mano Chhabra, who beat Richard Lockhart Smith 6-4;6-0; while in the 55+ doubles event, David/Sanjay beat Sameer/Sandeep 6-1, 7-5.
Around 140 players across 11 categories, were in action at the Goa State Ranking Tennis Tournament sponsored by TNS Jewellers.
