‘VANMAHOTSAVA’ TO CREATE SENSE OF RESPONSIBILITY TOWARDS ENVIRONMENT

The Governor, P.S. Shreedharan Pillai attended the Vanmahotsava programme at Raj Bhavan and planted Mango saplings in the campus of Raj Bhavan, Dona Paula today.

The programme was jointly organised by Raj Bhavan and Department of Forest. The First Lady of Goa, K. Rita Pillai graced the occassion and planted the sapling.

Others present were Puneet Kumar Goel, IAS, Chief Secretary, MRM Rao, IAS, Secretary to Governor, Rajiv Kumar Gupta, IFS, Principal Chief Conservator of Forest, Yesodha K, IFS, Conservator of Forest, Umakant, IFS, Additional Principal, Chief Conservator of Forest, Praveen Kumar Raghav, IFS, Chief Conservator of Forest, Saurabh Kumar, IFS, Chief Conservator of Forest, Sanjeev Gauns Dessai, Add. Secretary to Governor. Other officials also participated in Vanmahotsava celebrations and planted fruit-bearing plants.

The event is aimed to promote afforestation and environmental awareness in the region. Vanmahotsava symbolises the importance of planting diverse and valuable trees.

As a part of the initiative to involve the public in the process, saplings were distributed to the people by the Governor and the First Lady of Goa. The gesture is aimed to encourage individual involvement in the conservation efforts and to create a sense of responsibility among citizens towards environment.
