VEDANTA SESA GOA LAUNCHES GIRLS FOOTBALL CENTRE AT AMONA

Vedanta Sesa Goa in line with its commitment towards women’s empowerment and nurturing youth through sports, inaugurated its first ‘Girls Football Centre’ at Amona. The initiative is aimed to provide the young girls a platform to hone their skills through specialised training programmes and to empower them in a manner that they can leverage the acquired skills to improve their prospects, stated a press release.

Leena Verenkar, Head CSR & SCDF, explained that through the Girls Football Centre, Sesa Football Academy aims to nurture talent from the grassroots level for creating a talent pool that can ultimately, have the chance to join the senior women’s team.The Vedanta Girls Football Centre’s target group is girls aged between 6 to 14 years old.

Sarpanch of Amona, Krishna Gawas expressed his appreciation for the Vedanta Sesa Goa initiative while emphasising upon the effort undertaken by the company, and the positive impact of the initiative going beyond schools and education and contributing tremendously to women empowerment.

Yashwant Parab, from Vedanta Amona Plant, took the initiative to personally mentor and train the students, working alongside the coaches to ensure their growth and development.

Severino Fernandes, Head Coach of Senior Women’s Sesa Football Academy; and Ulhas Gaonkar, Headmaster of Govt. HS, Amona, were also present among others.
