Chief Minister, Dr Pramod Sawant has emphasised that the government has strived to maintain Goa’s green cover even with the progress achieved in developing the state.
Addressing the gathering at the book release function of ‘Wild Goa – A Symphony in Feathers’ authored by naturalist, birdwatcher Parag Rangnekar in Panaji on Monday; Dr Sawant stated: “We are committed to sustainable development. We have been able to maintain green cover in the state while carrying out development of the state.”
The Chief Minister also announced that the Tourism, Environment and Information & Publicity Department will support projects that celebrate nature-based dimension of the State.
Director of Information & Publicity Dipak Bandekar, Member Secretary of Goa State Biodiversity Board – Dr. Pradip Sarmokadam; Head of Department of Zoology at Carmel College For Women Nuvem – Dr. Manoj Borkar, were also present.
Rangnekar’s work on this book, which has also been noted by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi, will help students and tourists alike in understanding the endemic birds of Goa while also charting the avian diversity across the coastal area, plains, wetlands and forests.
