The Central Bureau of Communication (CBC), Goa, under the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Government of India, in collaboration with the Nutrition Society of India – Goa Chapter and the Goa College of Home Science, organised a program on the occasion of World Breastfeeding Week 2025 at Dhempe College of Arts and Science, Miramar today, 6th August.
The event, held in coordination with the Health Centre at Dhempe College, aimed to raise awareness about the importance of breastfeeding and the need to establish sustainable support systems for mothers and infants.
The session began with a welcome address by Riyas Babu, Publicity Officer, CBC Goa. Dr. P. S. Ramu Murthy, Principal of Dhempe College, also addressed the gathering and highlighted the significance of collaborative efforts in promoting maternal and child health.
Varsha Naik, Convener of the Nutrition Society of India – Goa Chapter and Assistant Professor at Goa College of Home Science, led the session through an informative PowerPoint presentation on the theme of this year’s World Breastfeeding Week: “Prioritise Breastfeeding: Create Sustainable Support Systems.”
Naik emphasised the societal responsibility of supporting breastfeeding mothers through community, healthcare, and policy frameworks.
The program saw enthusiastic participation from over 70 girl students, who actively engaged in the Question and Answer session, seeking clarity on various aspects of nutrition and infant care.
As a token of appreciation, the CBC presented a memento to Varsha Naik, acknowledging her contribution towards building a healthier India through education and advocacy.
