PANAJI: The World Environment Day was celebrated here today morning by CCP with support of Samrat Club and Punit Sagar Abhiyan NCC Cadets of 1 Goa Bn; to clean Miramar Beach in the capital city on June 5. The beach clean up drive attracted a lot of residents as well who pledged their support to building a cleaner environment and avoiding use of plastic, stated a press note.
The beach drive was conducted in the presence of Prerna Pawaskar, President Samrat Club, Panaji, Rohit Monserrate, Mayor, Vivek Parsekar, Municipal Engineer, CCP and Colonel MKS Rathore – Commanding officer 1 Goa Bn NCC, Punit Sagar Abhiyan. All the waste was collected in bags and segregated into wet and dry waste at the beach ready to dispose. The NCC cadets carried out the drive with the help of citizens of Panaji in efforts to keep the city clean and green.
On this occasion Prerna Pawaskar, President, Samrat Club shared her thoughts, “Samrat Club, Panaji is constantly involved in projects that work towards betterment of the city. We often get a lot of support from the residents and today also my heart is full of gratitude to see such a good turn over. I thank CCP for their support for this noble cause.”
Col. MKS Rathore – Commanding officer 1 Goa Bn NCC, Punit Sagar Abhiyan along with his cadets took charge of the beach clean drive and said, “We are proud to be associated with this activity today on World Environment Day and witnessing so many residents participate to help make a better and cleaner future. I see a bright healthy future for the younger generation and hope that they will too join such initiatives and continue the efforts we have begun. I appreciate all the support we received today and hope for the beaches of Goa to remain clean and healthy along with the residents of the state.”
The day concluded with the distribution of 6000 cloth bags in Panaji municipal market with the support of Sensible Earth, Sanjiv Sardessai and volunteers. Sanjiv Sardessai addressed the crowd and explained the importance of reducing the use of plastic and nano-plastic that spread and enter the human body causing various terminal health conditions. To attract residents and to display the cloth bags, a dome was raised right in the centre of the Panaji market where the delegates emphasised on avoiding plastic bags. Sensible Earth along with NAMA Facility,m and Flip, conducted street plays and competitions to raise awareness about the effects of one-use plastic.
