Three-time National Champion Sourabh Varma will take on rising star Tharun M. in the men’s singles final while last National Games bronze-medallist Aditi Bhatt will take on National Champion Anupama Upadhyaya in the individual badminton finals at the 37th National Games at Dr Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Stadium at Taleigao Plateau on Tuesday.
In a hard-fought men’s semi-final on Monday, 30-year-old Sourabh battled past Harsheel Dani 19-21, 21-14, 21-17 in 57 minutes. In the other semis, Tharun M staged a superb fightback against higher-ranked and 2nd-seed Mithun Manjunath for a 12-21, 21-14, 22-20 victory in a marathon duel that last for an hour and seven minutes.
Over in the women’s semi-finals, fourth-seed Anupama Upadhyaya sent top seed Aakarshi Kashyap packing. In just 39 minutes, Anupama brushed off the Chhattisgarh-born shuttler’s challenge 21-13, 21-17.
In the gold medal match tomorrow, Anupama will clash with Aditi Bhatt – who prevailed over Meghana Reddy M 7-21, 24-22, 21-16 in 51 minutes.
With the stadium entry being free of cost, the spectators are welcome at all venues for the 37th National Games Goa 2023. Badminton fans will be in for a treat on the finals day if we go by the exciting performances witnessed on the semis day today.
