PANAJI: Shobhana Korgaokar, a woman with disability from Camurlim, who endured excruciating suffering due to the lack of basic amenities – has been provided with in-house toilet facility by Guruprasad Pawaskar, the State Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities; stated a press release.
It may be recalled a few months ago the plight of Shobhana Korgaokar, whose both legs have been amputated, was highlighted. After which the commissioner took immediate action and provided her a wheelchair so she could move around the house easily. Besides, he had promised all the assistance, the commission could offer.
“Every person has the right to a dignified life, and a disability cannot be an excuse for denying someone this right,” said Pawaskar.
Through the assistance of Avelino De Sa, President of Disability Rights Association of Goa, senior journalist Prakash Kamat, and Rotary Club of Porvorim; Shobhana Korgaonkar has now been provided with an in-house toilet facility.
Shobhana Korgaonkar said, “My both legs were amputated four years ago. Since then, my mother has helped me with my daily tasks. But since my mother passed away, I have had to deal with many difficulties”.
“The state commissioner for PwDs acted right away after the media to draw attention to my issue. I thank everyone for all the help”, she added.
Pawaskar stated that the Commission for PwDs in Goa remains deeply committed to its cause. He has encouraged citizens to reach out to the Commission if they encounter PwDs in need of assistance.
