BAMBOLIM: Jay Kunkolkar of Bal Bharati Vidya Mandir-Ribandar, says he didn’t expect a new record when he set out on the under-14 boys 400m run at the 54th edition of State Athletics Championship organised by Goa Athletics Association, at the athletics stadium, Bambolim.
Running the race in under a minute, Jay has created a new state record in the U-14 boys 400m event. Jay from Chimbel, is part of RCC Bambolim from last six years and is training under coach Devi Gaonkar.
“I am absolutely happy to create a new record. I did not expect to set a NMR. I gave my best and set out with a fast start. I maintained the same rhythm and there was almost 10 metre gap between the closest chasing runner as I accelerated from halfway-point,” said 13-year-old Jay, who clocked 56.4 seconds for his sparkling effort.
A big fan of legendary Usain Bolt, Jay also bagged the Individual Championship in the U-14 Boys category.
