World No 4 Liang Jingkun of China overcame a stiff challenge from compatriot Lin Gaoyuan to enter the men’s singles semi-finals at the ongoing WTT Star Contender Goa 2023.
Liang got the better of World No 10 Lin 3-1 (9-11, 12-10, 11-7, 14-12) in a spectacular duel, which lasted 48 minutes.
Knowing each other inside out as part of being members of China team, Liang and Lin matched shot for shot and engaged in breathtaking rallies. While the counterattack-minded Liang won 25 points on his own serve while losing 17, Lin collected 23 and lost 21 points as he displayed a superb left-hand attacking brand of table tennis.
In his post match reaction, Liang said: ” I am really familiar with Lin Gaoyuan as he is my team-mate and I think I played quite well today and I am happy with my performance.”
