Overcast skies with no winds in morning quickly turned around to crisp winds in the afternoon at Dona Paula Bay on Day 1 of the Sail Goa 2023, Zonal Sailing Championship.
Dayne and Katya Coelho of GYA took full advantage of home conditions to take both the guns in the races today. Dayne, who clawing his way to the top in the IQfoil Men’s National Ranking, beat India’s top-ranked Jerome Kumar and Saurabh Kumar of AYN who will surely turn on their ace game in the coming races.
Katya Coelho of GYA raced ahead of her closest rival Ishwariya Ganesh in the IQfoil women’s category stamping her authority on day 1.
In the RS:X Men’s Category Ebad Ali of AYN, the Asian Games Windsurfer took both guns ahead of Ved Pathak of AYN and Mithelesh Kumar of EMESC
In the RS:One Open Youth Category , 16 years old Kayah Coelho is taking on boys in the category and giving them a run for their money. Ganesh Vishvakarma of Trishna Sailing Club took all 3 guns and is leading after Day 1.
In the Open Foil Category, Aditya Sangwan of AYN is leading after he took both the guns.
In the Raceboard category in the Men’s division DP Chennaih of EMESC took all 3 guns to make a sensational comeback to National Windsurfing after a long break, he was ahead of NS Rawat of INWTC Goa and Kamalapati of EMESC while in the Youth Boys division – N Vamshi of INWTC Goa is in first place ahead of Adarsh Chunekar of GYA and in Grandmasters division Gopal Amin of GYA took 2 guns out of 3 and is ahead of Brig. PC Roy and Capt Suresh Babu of INWTC Goa.
In the Topper Class Jogendar Thakur of EMESC is ahead of Raiti Babaji of Jellyfish Water Sports with two guns in both the races. Meanwhile, the Sailing enthusiasts can view the races from 11am to 1 pm and 3 pm to 5 pm from the Dona Paula Jetty.
