To raise awareness about Autism, the Office of the State Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities in Goa organised an Autism Awareness Week celebration in all the Special Schools across the state.

The week-long celebration featured various events, including workshops for persons with disabilities, awareness drives, and competitions.

“We are overwhelmed with the response to the Autism Awareness Week celebration in the state. This initiative has helped raise awareness of autism and promote understanding and inclusion of individuals with autism in our society. We plan to continue organising such events in the future to support this cause and create a more inclusive and supportive environment for individuals with disabilities,” said Guruprasad Pawaskar, Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities.

As a show of support for autism awareness, some schools were decorated in blue colour throughout the event. Blue is the internationally recognised colour for autism awareness. Keshav Seva Sadhana, Bicholim emerged as the winner of the competition, followed by Disha School for Special Children, Panaji in second place and Astha’s Anand Niketan, Porvorim in third place.

Gujarati Samaj Educational Trust, Margao; Lokvishwas Pratishthan High School, Quepem and Lokvishwas Pratishthan High School, Mollem, were the other schools that participated in the event.

On the sidelines of the celebration, a workshop was organised for parents of children with autism to raise awareness of the condition and its management.
