WCM Gunjal Chopdekar won the Late Shripad & Anusuya Kamat Tarcar Memorial Women’s State Chess Championship/Selection 2023. She scored a total of 7 points in 7 rounds, remaining unbeaten in the entire competition.
This tournament was organised by Tiswadi Taluka Chess Association under the auspices of Goa Chess Ad-hoc Committee in collaboration with Mahalaxmi Devasthan.
Asmita Ray scored 6 points and finished runner-up while Valanka Fernandes also scored 6 points and finished third.
Placings 4th to 10th – Sayuri Naik, Vaishnavi Parab, Shriya Patil, Shrivalli Gandhi, Sayyed Maizah, Sayyed Mahdiya and Arya Dabholkar.
Category prize-winners in U7, U9, U11, U13, and youngest are as follows: Dhrisha Ghonge, Sidonia Dacunha, Skeyla Rodriques, Samrithi Malkar, Diya Sawal, Saeeja Dessai, Viyomi Parab, Tanvi Hadkonkar, Lyia Silveira.
Selected 4 players will represent Goa at the Nationals to be held in Ahmedabad from 30th June to 10th July 2023.
Chaitanya Tarcar was the Chief Guest at the function and distributed the prizes in the presence of guest of honour Narayan ( Bhau) Mandrekar , secretary of Mahalaxmi Devastan, Mahesh Candolkar, Dattaram Pinge, Arvind Mhamal, Atish Angle, Naresh Pednekar, Sandesh Amonkar and Rajan Naik.
