Goan youth are in for a bonanza in terms of apprenticeship training opportunities numbering 15,000; and skilling promise via a tie-up with the Tata Group for transforming Industrial Training Institutes (ITI) into centres of excellence.
At a grand ceremony to mark the World Youth Skill Day 2023 by giving apprenticeship offer letters to youth, Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant revealed that Tata Group’s Tata Technologies will invest Rs 160 Cr in upgrading the ITIs while the government will be spending Rs 230 Cr over the year with all ITIs being transformed into model ITIs so that youth get the skilling expertise.
Meanwhile, Dr Sawant inaugurated the New Model ITI Building at Panaji Government ITI, Althino in the presence of Secretary Skill Development & Entrepreneurship, Prasad Lolayekar, IAS, Director, Skill Development, Sakharam Gaonkar, Dy. Director, Skill Development, Vinayak Kambli and others.
Secretary of Education, Prasad Lolayekar (IAS) revealed that the Government Sector has created 6400 apprenticeship opportunities while the target set was 5000, thus exceeding the original figure. Similarly Private Sector has opened 8600 spots for apprentices overtaking the initial target of 5000. Thus the total number of apprentices’ training opportunities has gone up to 15,000. All the opportunities will be filled up by the end of the month.
He also added that the government will be signing a MOU with Tata Group for the financial boost to ITIs based on Goa. The MoU will see Tata Group’s financial support and knowledge resource upgrade the ITIs into Centre for Excellence in five ITIs to start with and hoped that all 10 will be covered in future. He also announced an agreement with air conditioning giants ‘Daikin’ which will provide students of Air Conditioning stream to get hands-on training on the latest development in that field.
Elsewhere, Agriculture Minister, Ravi Naik inaugurated the Apprenticeship Training Programme 2023, organised by the Directorate of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, along with Minister for WRD, Subhash Shirodkar and other dignitaries at Ponda. Minister also distributed the contract letters to the youths who had enrolled themselves for the apprentice training programme in various Government departments and also private industries.
Social Welfare Minister, Subhash Phal Dessai in the presence of MLA, Ulhas Tuenkar inaugurated the Apprenticeship Training Programme 2023, at Ravindra Bhavan, Margao.
Transport Minister, Mauvin Godinho inaugurated the Apprenticeship Training Programme 2023 at Vasco. MLA, Sankalp Amonkar, and MLA, Daji Salkar were also present.
