President of the Goa Olympic Association (GOA) Sadanand Shet Tanavade, Rajya Sabha MP, has announced Awards for outstanding National Sports Day celebrations, encouraging all State Sports Associations affiliated to G.O.A to mark National Sports Day with meaningful, innovative and impactful programmes that promote sporting culture across the state.
GOA has invited affiliated State Sports Associations to organise programmes on and around 29 August, and to share details of their activities with the Goa Olympic Association at olympicgoa@gmail.com after completion. Associations are encouraged to use the occasion to actively promote their sport and inspire greater participation. Suggested activities could include coaching and training sessions, sports demonstrations, interaction and motivational talks by athletes and coaches, talent identification sessions, exhibitions and sports clinics, etc.
National Sports Day, observed on 29 August to commemorate the birth anniversary of legendary hockey player Major Dhyan Chand, celebrates India’s sporting spirit and recognises the contribution of athletes to the nation. GOA’s initiative seeks to transform the occasion into a platform for action, participation and athlete engagement. The Association will also institute Monthly Awards and other honours, with details to be announced shortly, to encourage year-round sporting activities and recognise outstanding efforts by athletes, coaches, officials and associations – with the larger vision of making Goa one of India’s most active and vibrant sporting states.
G.O.A: NEW EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE VISITS CHIEF MINISTER, DISCUSSES VISION & PRIORITIES
The newly-elected G.O.A Executive Committee of the Goa Olympic Association (GOA), led by President and Rajya Sabha MP Sadanand Shet Tanavade, met Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant at his official residence in Altinho and discussed the Association’s vision and priorities for the 2026-30 term. The delegation highlighted its focus on strengthening athlete support, improving coordination with State Sports Associations and building a stronger sporting ecosystem in Goa.
During the interaction, GOA also requested the Chief Minister’s intervention for the release of pending grants to sports associations and athletes, while seeking suitable office premises in Panaji to enable the Association to function more effectively and coordinate with affiliated associations and stakeholders. Dr Sawant assured the new team of the Government of Goa’s full support and cooperation in taking forward the State’s sporting development. Adding a warm personal touch to the visit, GOA Vice Presidents Sandhya Paliekar and Bhageshri Padloskar, along with Executive Member Rukmini Kamat, tied rakhis to the Chief Minister on the occasion of Raksha Bandhan.
