Senior Advisor at the National Institute of Transforming India (NITI) Aayog in New Delhi, Dr. Neelam Patel, visited the ICAR-Central Coastal Agricultural Research Institute at Old Goa, on August 17-18, 2023.
The purpose of the visit was to gain a better understanding of the actual situation in the field of fisheries and the aspirations of fishing communities for the formulation of policy. Dr. Chidananda Prabhu, Incharge of KVK at ICAR-CCARI in Goa, extended a warm welcome to Dr. Neelam Patel.
During the visit, Trivesh Mayekar provided an overview of the activities undertaken by ICAR-CCARI, explaining its research objectives and ongoing research endeavors. Dr. Shirish Narnaware, Incharge of the Animal and Fisheries Science Division, highlighted the current research initiatives in the realm of animal science. Dr. Neelam Patel also elaborated extensively on the objectives of NITI Aayog and its pivotal role in shaping policies. The scientists at the institute also provided a brief overview of the research undertakings at the institute.
Dr. Neelam Patel also took the opportunity to tour various sections of the institute, including the Aquaculture facility, Dairy unit, piggery unit, poultry unit, and the fodder cafeteria. Additionally, she visited different KVK units of the Institute, such as the virgin coconut oil production unit, along with different fish farms in Goa, the landing jetty, Ornamental Fish unit, Seabass live selling unit, and the Fish processing unit.
