After winning a stunning silver medal at the Asian Athletics Championships 2023 to announce her arrival, KM Chanda went through a rough time at the recent Asian Games in China. What followed next was a state of depression for this talented middle-distance runner. She can, however, afford to smile now that she has the consolation of finishing the season by defending her National Games 800 M gold medal.
KM Chanda of Delhi clocked 2:01.74 s in her successful outing in Goa. Yamuna Ladkat (Maharashtra) – 2:03.24 and Pooja (Haryana) – 2:03.69 clinched silver and bronze medals respectively.
KM Chanda, who has been supported by Dream Foundation, revealed that she had gone through a difficult period and as such, couldn’t prepare as well as she would have liked to.
“I was upset about my failure at Hangzhou Asian Games as my body just didn’t react in the right manner. I was unable to understand the reasons for the debacle. If I had performed as per my potential, I would have won a gold medal.
“So, I went into a state of depression after returning to India…I had even considered not to participate in the 37th National Games Goa 2023,” the 22-year-old KM Chanda told www.livenewsgoa.com.
