The Office of the Chief Electoral Officer Goa and Office of the State Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities have joined hands to uphold the democratic rights of all citizens, particularly focusing on Persons with Disabilities (PwDs) and senior citizens, by ensuring an inclusive and accessible voting process.
Ahead of the recent elections, a concerted effort was made to address transportation barriers for PwDs and senior citizens. E-rickshaws specially equipped to cater to the needs of persons with disabilities, were meticulously arranged to facilitate smooth transit to and from polling stations across the state. This initiative aimed to provide equal opportunities for all eligible voters to participate in the electoral process.
Across North and South Goa, all polling booths were strategically located on the ground floor to ensure ease of access for voters with diverse requirements. These enhancements were implemented to create an inclusive environment where every citizen could exercise their right to vote without encountering physical barriers.
On polling day, special provisions were implemented to streamline the voting process and prioritize the needs. Priority entering facilities were established, along with separate queues designated for PwDs and senior citizens. Additionally, the provision of additional wheelchairs at all polling stations ensured that every voter could access polling booths without facing any obstacles, states a press release.
