The Chief Justice of India, Dr. D. Y. Chandrachud, recently released the Coffee Table Book on International Purple Fest 2024 during the India Accessibility Summit & State Disability Commissioners’ Conclave 2024. The event, held in Bangalore, marked a significant milestone in promoting inclusivity and accessibility for Persons with Disabilities.
The unveiling was attended by esteemed dignitaries, including Judge of the Supreme Court, Justice BV Nagarathna, Chief Justice of the High Court of Karnataka, NV Anjaria, Chief Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities & Secretary Delhi, Rajesh Aggarwal, Padma Shri Awardee and Purple Ambassador, Venkatesh Yethiraj and Guruprasad Pawaskar from the Office of the State Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities (Goa).
During the Conclave, Dr. Chandrachud delivered an inspiring speech, highlighting the necessity of inclusivity and accessibility in Indian society. He stated, “I don’t want the future generations of people with disabilities to experience an India that does not include them. Disability and accessibility are both complex social phenomena and the solutions lie in social dialogue.”
Guruprasad Pawaskar, State Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities, emphasised the importance of continued efforts towards inclusivity. He stated, “The International Purple Fest serves as a beacon of hope and a platform for celebrating the resilience and achievements of persons with disabilities. Our commitment is to ensure that every individual, regardless of their abilities, has equal access to opportunities and resources. The Coffee Table Book is not just a compilation of memories but a testament to our collective journey towards a more inclusive and accessible society. We must continue to advocate and implement policies that protect the rights and dignity of all individuals.”
