S.S. Dempo College of Commerce and Economics, Cujira, emerged champions at the Goa University Inter-College Badminton Championship 2024-2025 for men and women at Indoor Stadium, Campal. The annual tournament was held from 30th July to 2nd August 2024.
In the women’s final, Dempo College defeated Goa College of Pharmacy 2-1. Riya Haldankar defeated Muskan Sharma 21-4, 21-6 in the first singles. Manjushri Raut beat Malaika Lobo 21-13, 21-8 in the second singles. In the deciding doubles match, Riya Haldankar & Malaika Lobo defeated Manjushi Raut & Muskan Sharma 21-11, 21-12.
In the men’s final, Dempo College defeated Government College of Arts, Science & Commerce, Sanquelim, 3-0. In the first singles, Yash Gokarnakar defeated Mohammad Zain Sayed 21-14, 21-7. Rudra Fadte then defeated Abhishek Swami 21-14, 21-8 in the second singles. In the doubles, Aryaman Saraf & Rudra Fadte defeated Atharv Surlikar & Atharva Pednekar 21-7, 21-5.
The prize for Best player of the championship (Men) was shared between Abhishek Swami of Government College of Arts, Science & Commerce, Sanquelim, and Rudra Fadte of S.S. Dempo College of Commerce and Economics, Cujira.
In women’s section, Manjushri Raut of Goa College of Pharmacy was named the Best Player.
Dr. G. Shaber Ali, Principal of V.M. Salgaocar College of Law, Miramar, was the chief guest; and gave away the prizes along with Guest of Honour, Prof. Manoj Kamat, Principal, S.S. Dempo College of Commerce and Economics, Cujira and Roy Athide, Badminton Coach, Sports Authority of Goa. Balachandra B. Jadar, Assistant Director of Physical Education and Sports, Goa University was also present.
