“Working with honesty and integrity in the Government is essential to fulfilling very purpose of celebrating ‘Vigilance Week’ said the Chief Secretary, Dr. V. Candavelou who was speaking as chief guest at the inaugural function to launch the observance of Vigilance Week at Seminar hall, Secretariat, Porvorim.
The function was organised by the Directorate of Vigilance on the theme ‘Vigilance: Our Shared Responsibility’. Vigilance Week is celebrated to commemorate the birth anniversary of former Home Minister of India, late Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel.
The Chief Secretary further speaking stressed on the need to adhere to the very objective of vigilance which aims at good, effective, accountable, transparent and corruption free governance to people. He said celebration of Vigilance week has a purpose of reviewing our policy, way of working and rededicating ourselves to the norms of ethics of serving people honestly.
The Director of Department of Vigilance, Amarsen Rane in his welcome address said the very existence of the Government is to serve the people. Therefore he said we have to be vigilant and work with a conscience keeping in mind the vision and mission of the Government and have to asses ourselves to know whether we are working up to the mark as expected. The celebration of Vigilance Week is an occasion for all of us to introspect, he said.
Rane also said that vigilance is keeping a watchful eye on activities of personnel and taking prompt action to promote fair practices, ensure integrity / honesty in official transactions /behavior thereby avoiding untoward practices. Therefore he called upon all the stakeholders of the Government to work with honesty and integrity and adhere to the objective of effective, accountable and transparent governance, he reiterated.
Earlier, Dr. Candavelou administered the oath of vigilance. Thereafter the artist staff of Arts and Culture presented a skit depicting message of importance of vigilance. The Vigilance Department to sensitise masses about vigilance week organised activities like Skit competition, poster making competition etc. State-level Elocution competition for colleges from all over the state participated in the competition.
Commissioner cum Secretary Information and Publicity, S.S. Gill IAS, Commissioner cum Secretary Revenue, Sandip Jaques IAS, Secretary Protocol, Sanjiv Gadkar IAS, Secretary Co-Operation, Yatin Maralkar IAS, secretaries and Under Secretaries to the Government, HODs of the various Government Departments, staff of the Vigilance Department and others attended the function.
