Competitive action at the 11th edition of the Gadre Gaspar Dias Open got underway at the Clube Tennis de Gaspar Dias premises in Miramar and at the Panjim Gymkhana on Thursday, with a slew of matches played in the tournament’s Masters category on the opening day.
In the first-round matches of the Masters men’s singles 45+ category, Arun NS registered a comfortable 6–0 win over Karl R, while Prashant defeated Vivek 6–1. Amit blanked Saifraj 6–0, and D Arumugam overcame R Kapse 6–1. Atul J cruised past Arun with a 6–0 victory. R Gandhi beat Prashant 6–1, Arumugam M accounted for Subodh S 6–2, Pavan Mokashi defeated L Autade 6–1 and Sagar Pattekari edged Anup Sardesai 6–4.
V Mangaonkar won a closely fought contest against S Signapurkar 7–5, while Saumil Sheth beat Nilesh Daine 6–1. Marcus D later defeated Ashok RG 6–1 in another first-round encounter.
In the Masters 90+ men’s doubles category, Ashok and D Arumugam recorded a 6–0 win over Elvis and Marcus.
Organised jointly by Clube Tennis de Gaspar Dias and the Gadre Group, in association with the Goa State Tennis Association (GSTA), the Gadre Gaspar Dias Open 2026 has drawn strong participation across categories. Masters category matches will continue until January 25, with the tournament’s Open category matches scheduled to begin on January 26.
