DEMPO SC SALVAGE HARD-EARNED POINT AGAINST CHANMARI FC

Dempo SC came from two goals down to earn a share of the spoils against Chanmari FC in an absorbing away fixture. Goals from Sebastian Gutierrez and Marcus Joseph ensured Dempo left with a point that their second-half display thoroughly merited.

Dempo created openings early through Richmond Owusu and Sebastian Gutierrez but failed to convert and Chanmari made them pay. Suanngaihmuana broke the deadlock in the 15th minute from a free kick and despite Ashish Sibi producing sharp stops to keep Dempo competitive, Chanmari doubled their advantage through KC Malsawmsanga in the 43rd minute.

Dempo’s response was immediate. A precise pass from Marcus Joseph released Gutierrez, who finished cleanly in the 45th minute to reduce the deficit and give Dempo renewed purpose heading into the break.

Chanmari threatened to extend their lead deep into stoppage time, but a resolute defensive effort from Mohamed Ali producing a crucial double stop when the goal seemed open kept Dempo within reach. Sibi was outstanding after the restart, denying Chanmari on multiple occasions as the hosts looked to put the match beyond reach.

The contest shifted decisively when Chanmari’s Malsawmsanga Renthlei was dismissed following a second yellow card and Dempo seized the advantage with growing purpose.

Marcus Joseph provided the decisive moment, threading his way through the Chanmari defence to level in the 81st minute. Richmond Owusu went close to snatching all three points late on, but Chanmari goalkeeper Zothanmawia held firm to ensure the spoils were shared.
