Chinmay Fallary, Deepak Salaskar, A.R. Surendra Kamath, and Albert Jaques led Goa’s charge on the opening day of the Qualifying rounds at the Yonex-Sunrise 48th Indian Masters (Veteran) National Badminton Championships 2025-26 at Manohar Parrikar Indoor Stadium, Navelim, Goa, registering notable wins across categories. Fallary scored a convincing victory over Manoj Narayanan Karinattu (MAH) in Men’s Singles 55.
In Men’s Doubles 65, the Goan pair of Deepak Salaskar and A.R. Surendra Kamath defeated Cherian Marattukalam Jacob and Rajeev R N (KER) in a hard-fought three-game encounter. In Mixed Doubles 60, third seeds Albert Jaques and Anjali Lava (Goa) edged past Hari Prakash Sharma and Sujata Sharma (RAJ) in a closely contested match.
However, Rajen Mathew (Goa) went down to Padmanabha Iyer Sasikumar (MAH) in MS 55, while Vishnu Dutt Sharma (Goa) and partner Ammar Kattack lost to the Tamil Nadu pair of Maran Thangavelu and Arunachallam Veiraiah.
The championship, organised by the Goa Badminton Association in aegis with the Badminton Association of India and powered by Raisoni Foundation, witnessed several upsets and strong performances by seeded players.
Top seed Rathan Nahar (KTK) progressed in MS 55, while Santhosh Krishnankutty (KER) caused an upset by defeating fourth seed Mahendra Singh Gehlot. In MS 60, top seed Suresh Ayyappan (MAH) advanced comfortably, alongside seeds Harmeet Singh Anand and Vipool Patel, though fourth seed Himanshu Goel suffered an early exit.
