237TH INDIAN ROADS CONGRESS MID-TERM COUNCIL MEETING: FOCUSING ON FUTURE OF ROAD INFRASTRUCTURE

The 237th Mid-Term Council Meeting of the Indian Roads Congress (IRC) was inaugurated at Taj Cidade de Goa Horizon, Dona Paula. Organised by the Indian Roads Congress in association with the Public Works Department, Government of Goa, the four-day event has brought together policymakers, engineers, researchers and infrastructure experts from across the country to deliberate on the future of India’s road and highway sector.

The meeting serves as an important platform for technical discussions on road engineering, research, innovation and infrastructure development. The programme includes the IRC Council Meeting, Highway Research Board Meeting, and the Secretaries (PWD), Engineers-in-Chief and Chief Engineers Meeting. The inaugural session also witnessed the release of IRC technical publications.

Addressing the inaugural session, Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant said Goa has witnessed remarkable transformation in road infrastructure under the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and with the continued support of Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari. He said record investments in National Highways, bridges, bypasses and road safety projects have strengthened connectivity, reduced travel time and accelerated economic growth across the State.

CM Dr. Sawant reaffirmed the State Government’s commitment to working closely with the Government of India to build safer, smarter and future-ready road infrastructure. He said improved connectivity is driving economic growth, enhancing public welfare and paving the way for the vision of Viksit Goa and Viksit Bharat.

The four-day meeting will provide an opportunity for experts, policymakers and engineers to exchange knowledge, discuss emerging challenges and promote best practices for strengthening India’s road and highway infrastructure.

Among those present on the occasion were Union Minister of State for Road Transport and Highways Ajay Tamta, Public Works Department Minister Digambar Kamat, Member of Parliament Sadanand Shet Tanavade, President of the Indian Roads Congress, Immediate Past President of the Indian Roads Congress, Director General (Road Development) and Special Secretary, Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, Secretary General of the Indian Roads Congress, Principal Chief Engineer Sandeep Chodnekar, senior officials and delegates from across the country.
