Mohammed Umar emerged as the star of the tournament by clinching a splendid triple crown, while Pragya Audi, Dimple Revankar and Arnav Saraf completed impressive double crowns.
The State Sub-Junior (U15 & U17) Badminton Ranking Tournament, organised by Salcete Badminton Club under the aegis of the Goa Badminton Association and powered by Model Margao, an initiative of Yogiraj Digambar Kamat, concluded at the Manohar Parrikar Indoor Stadium, Navelim.
Mohammed Umar defeated Michael Mare 15-13, 15-7 to win the U15 boys’ singles crown before overcoming top seed Sudhanva Udupa 7-15, 15-8, 15-10 in the U17 boys’ singles final.
He also partnered Niharika Parwar to a 15-11, 15-10 victory over Ateendra Gaonkar and Palak Ramnathkar in the U15 mixed doubles final. Pragya Audi beat Niharika Parwar 15-10, 15-12 to claim the U15 girls’ singles title and, along with Saanvi Audi, defeated Isha Borkar and Jewel Abranches 15-13, 15-3 to lift the U17 girls’ doubles crown.
Dimple Revankar rallied past Niharika Parwar 11-15, 15-9, 15-13 in the U17 girls’ singles final before combining with Arnav Saraf to defeat Sparsh Kolwalkar and Sambhavi Bhardwaj 15-10, 14-16, 15-10 for the U17 mixed doubles title. Arnav also partnered Shane D’Souza to a 15-11, 15-12 victory over Karthikeyan N and Linesh Virnodkar in the U17 boys’ doubles final.
Among the other champions, Aaryan Karpe and Ryllan D’Souza celebrated their maiden State Ranking title with a thrilling 12-15, 15-13, 16-14 victory over Samarth Sakhalkar and Vishwa Parab in the U15 boys’ doubles final. Avni Khyalia and Palak Ramnathkar won the U15 girls’ doubles crown after defeating Ashbah Tahasildar and Komal Kothari 15-11, 15-7.
Mohammed Umar and Pragya Audi were awarded best players of the tournament. Digambar Kamat, PWD Minister, graced the closing along with Yogiraj Kamat, and organising committee members Satya Kolwalkar, Vinayak Kamat, Sidharth Revankar, Kunal Kare among others.
