In a collaborative initiative aimed at strengthening environmental sustainability and enhancing green cover within Goa’s Industrial ecosystem, Goa-IDC has supported the development of a Green Belt initiative undertaken by Berger Paints India Limited at Kundaim Industrial Estate, in collaboration with the Kundaim Industrial Estate Industries Association.
As part of its commtitment to Environmental Sustainability and responsible Corporate practices, Berger Paints India Limited proposed the development of a Green Belt within the Kundaim Industrial Estate. The initiative aims to transform a barren and underutilised area into a sustainable green space, enhancing the estate’s green cover, supporting biodiversity and contributing to an overall ecological well-being of the industrial estate.
Recognising the environmental significance and long-term benefits of the initiative, Goa-IDC extended its support and guidance for the development of the project in collaboration with the Kundaim Industrial Estate Industries Association, facilitating the availability of an approximately 8,000 square metre plot within the Kundaim Industrial Estate.
Following the completion of the necessary formalities, the site was formally handed over to Berger Paints India Limited, with the Green Belt development initiative commencing on June 24, 2025, through a plantation drive held in the presence of representatives of Goa-IDC, members of the Kundaim Industrial Estate Industries Association and the senior management of Berger Paints India Limited.
Emphasising the need for collaborative efforts towards environmental sustainability, Pravimal Abhishek, IAS, Managing Director, Goa-IDC, said, “Industrial development and environmental sustainability must go hand in hand. This initiative by Berger Paints demonstrates how industries can contribute beyond their factory premises towards creating healthier and greener industrial ecosystems. Goa-IDC welcomes and encourages such collaborative efforts, and we hope this initiative will inspire more industries and industrial associations to actively participate in enhancing green cover and environmental sustainability across Goa’s industrial estates.”
The project has since made significant progress, with approximately 700 saplings planted during the first phase. The Company plans to progressively develop the entire 8,000 square metre area with a diverse mix of native, fruit-bearing and other suitable plant species. The initiative aims to enhance green cover, promote biodiversity and create a sustainable ecosystem that will benefit the industrial community and the surrounding environment in the long term.
Berger Paints India Limited is bearing the entire cost of the Green Belt Development project, including fencing, land levelling, plantation and maintenance. The Company has also engaged an expert consultant for the planning and execution of the project, as well as for the maintenance and care of the plantation and developed area for a period of two years, ensuring the sustainability and long-term growth of the initiative.
The site visit was also attended by Sandesh Dharekar, President, and Nilesh Churi, Vice President, of the Kundaim Industrial Estate Industries Association, who reviewed the progress of the initiative. Venkata Ramana Dumpala, Factory Head, Berger Paints India Limited – Goa, briefed the Goa-IDC Managing Director and other representatives on the progress of the Green Belt development and outlined the Company’s plans for its further expansion and maintenance.
The Green Belt Development initiative reflects a strong spirit of collaboration between Goa-IDC, Berger Paints India Limited and the Kundaim industrial community towards creating a greener and more sustainable industrial environment in Goa. Beyond increasing the green cover, the initiative is expected to promote biodiversity, improve the ecological character of the industrial estate and serve as a positive example of how industry-led environmental responsibility can contribute towards the sustainable development of industrial infrastructure.
