PANAJI: Goa’s state junior player, Yash Halarnkar (captain) along with Lydia Barreto (India international junior player) and Sidharth Nageshkar starred for ‘Mischievous Mammoths’, propelling their team to glory in the ‘Adidas Independence Cup’ badminton tournament at multipurpose hall, Peddem, says a press release.

Power Maulers captained by Aryaman Saraf emerged runners-up in the League team event powered by Adidas Badminton and Parama Heartbeat Sports. There were eight teams in all, featuring many of Goa’s top-ranked players such as Tejan Fallary, Harsh Mane, Lydia Barreto, Yasmin Sayed, Yash Desai, Anar Singbal, Floyd Araujo and many more.

Darklords led by Tejan Fallary and Atomic Blasters led by Manish Pankhania were the losing semi-finalists and shared third-place prizes. The League event was organised by Panjim Badminton Club, an affiliated unit of Goa Badminton Association in collaboration with Enthu Cutlets Social networking group.

“We organised this event to get our Goa players in competitive shape after the long lockdown break. Two players from Maharashtra were invited to participate and this was a good opportunity for our players to compete with them. Pooja Devlekar, who is Maharashtra’s top ranked player in Mixed doubles and a former India number one in Sub-Juniors along with Siddharth Nageshkar displayed their skills and were highly impressive. More leagues of this kind have been planned and coming up immediately next will be a ranking tournament in Ponda by August end,” stated Sandeep Heble, secretary of Goa Badminton Association.
