PANAJI: 52nd IFFI has been screening films with amazing subjects. Two of such Indian films are Eight Down Toofaan Mail (Hindi) directed by Akriti Singh, and Boomba Ride (Mishing) directed by Biswajeet Bora.
‘8 Down Toofaan Mail’ is an almost-heist based on true events from the 1970s at New Delhi Railway Station.
Actor and director Akriti Singh was overwhelmed with the response to her film. “Yesterday after the India premiere, I was crying after the film! Somebody told me can I hug you, what else does a filmmaker need? That’s it. I am thankful to IFFI for giving me this opportunity, especially because mine is not a big production not a film made with lot of money; it’s a film made with passion. We are a bunch of friends who do theatre together. We decided that we needed to tell this story! Even if we don’t have the money, we have the talent,” Akriti told the media.
So the message from Akriti’s film is: “What I want this film to do in future is, to inspire more people to go ahead and tell their stories, to not get bogged down by money…I think that film-making is changing! Everyone have mobile phones and can shoot ourselves these days.”
‘Boomba Ride’ – The film is about a primary school located near the banks of the Brahmaputra River, which is the life line of many tribes in Assam.
Renowned director Biswajeet Bora from Golaghat district of Assam, wants to give a fundamental message to the society about importance of education via this Mishing-language film wherein he cast amateur personalities from the village for a realistic portrayal of the tribal way of life. He is pained at lack of seriousness of people towards educational facilities provided by the government.
