VINAYAK GAONKAR & BLANCHE THEMUDO AMONG TOPPERS AS 190 ATHLETES COMPLETE ‘VORRAD’ DUATHLON

MARGAO: A total of 190 athletes from across and outside Goa successfully completed the second edition of the “Vorrad 5.55” duathlon organised by the Propedalerz Cycling Club, Margao in Benaulim on Sunday, April 3.

The participants first rode their cycles on the 55km course from Benaulim beach to Canaguinnim and back and followed up the same with a 2.5 or 5km beach run.

The event was flagged off by India football team’s former star midfielder Clifford Miranda. ‘Padma Shri’ Brahmanand Shankhwalkar, former India football captain and goalkeeper, was the chief guest at the medals distribution ceremony.

While there were no competitive finishing places and prizes, well-known triathlete Vinayak Gaonkar finished first overall and Blanche Themudo finished first among women participants.

The youngest participant was 16 years old while the oldest was 68 years old. There were quite a few participants who travelled from out of state to participate in the event. Dr Vishwajit Faldesai, president of Propedalerz Club, appreciated the enthusiasm of all cyclists and runners and promised to organise similar events regularly in the future, states a press release.
