ADIP: ASSESSMENT CAMP FOR PERSONS WITH DISABILITIES TO BE HELD IN PANAJI

The Office of the State Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities, Goa and Directorate of Social Welfare, Goa in association with Artificial Limbs Manufacturing Corporation (ALIMCO) has organised Assistance to Disabled Persons for Purchase/ Fitting of Aids and Appliances camp (ADIP Camp) as part of the Purple Fest. The camp will take place from January 6-8 between 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Inox Parking, ESG Panaji; states a press release. The camp will be free of cost to all certified PwDs informed Guruprasad Pawaskar, State Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities.

The national level camp will be set up to assess persons with disabilities and provide them with aids & equipment at no cost to them, in order to promote their physical, social and psychological rehabilitation by reducing the effects of disabilities and enhance their economic potential.

Vipin Singh Rawat, Finance Executive, ALIMCO said, “Our doctors will be there along with our team. Documents for eligibility will be checked, after which they will be registered. Assessment will be done and equipment needed will be ascertained and registered.”

After the assessment camp, within two months there will be a special distribution camp of the equipment to the eligible beneficiaries.

The eligibility criteria for this programme is as follows:

a) Holding a 40% and Disability above disability Certificate from authorised medical board/UDID
b) Income proof: Should be possessing income certificate of 2 lakh 70 thousand or below issued by a competent authority
c) Aadhar Card

The applicants should come with the original and photocopies of the above and a passport size photograph.

The ADIP Scheme was established in 1981 under which assistive devices are given to PwDs with an aim to improve their independent functioning and to arrest the extent of disability and occurrence of secondary disability. The scheme also envisages conduct corrective surgeries, wherever required, before providing an assistive device. This scheme releases grants-in-aid to a variety of implementing agencies for aid and assistive device purchase and distribution.

ALIMCO is a Central Public Sector unit, working under the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Department of Empowerment for Persons with Disabilities, Government of India. Since its inception in 1972, ALIMCO has manufactured and supplied assistive devices for people with disabilities. It has so far provided assistive device to about 42 lakh of PwDs across the length and breadth of the country. Product range of ALIMCO include 35 categories of cost effective and quality assistive device having 360 variants approx. covering aids and appliances for the visually, hearing, and mentally impaired.
