ALL-INDIA BOARDSAILING CHAMPIONSHIP 2022: HIGHEST-EVER HAUL FOR GOA WITH 5 GOLD & 1 SILVER – DAYNE COELHO REIGNS SUPREME

PANAJI: Dayne Coelho had to take both guns ahead of Ebad Ali on the final day and he did just that in great style to reign supreme at the All India Boardsailing Championships 2022 organised by Goa Yachting Association at Dona Paula.

In Race no. 11, Dayne finished at least 50 board lengths ahead of Ebad and in the last race of the championship managed to stay ahead and claim his rightful spot on top. With this win he goes into the last leg of the Asian Games Selection trials to be held in Mumbai in May 2022 with a clear 9-point lead over Ebad Ali of the Army Yachting Node. In the RS:X Women’s category, Ishwarya Ganesh of TNSA finished the championship with all 12 guns and claimed the gold medal ahead of Manaswani Maharana of Orissa Yachting Association (OYA) who had to settle for silver.

In the IQ Foil women’s category Katya Coelho of GYA who was recognised by the International IQ Foil class association due to her stellar performances here finished with a gold. In the open Foil Men’s category Saurabh Kumar of AYN maintained his top spot today with Tenka Madhu of AYN in second place and Imtizulu of INWTC, Goa in third place.

In The RS:One women’s category Pearl Colvalcar of GYA bagged the gold. The Raceboard Men’s category saw the surprise package of D Shekhar Rao of OYA finish with the gold clearly ahead. LT Maneesh Raja and Akhilesh Solanki of AYN bagged the Silver and Bronze respectively. In the Raceboard Youth Boys division Avelino Fernandes and Adarsh Chunekar both from GYA claimed gold and silver respectively while Kayah Coelho of GYA bagged the gold in the Raceboard Youth Girls. In the Raceboard Masters category, Cmde. Ashish Saxena (Rtd) took top honours with gold ahead of Brig. PC Roy and Mark Oakley who finished with silver and Bronze respectively.

The prize distribution ceremony was presided over by Chief Guest Capt. Jitendra Dixit, Jt. Hon. Secretary of Yachting Association of India. He praised the sailors on their excellent performance and complimented GYA on the well organised regatta.
