NAVELIM: It was another eventful day of qualifying rounds at the Yonex Sunrise All India Junior Ranking Badminton Tournament here at Manohar Parrikar indoor stadium in South Goa, where a total of 435 matches were held on day two. The week-long event has witnessed large participation of players from across India. 460 matches were held on day one of the tournament, and 382 matches are scheduled on day three.

BAI Observer Mayur Parikh expressed his delight over the large numbers. “As this being the Selection tournament more than 1500 players have participated from all over India. All the qualifying matches played on the first two days were played with high intensity & some of them were nail-biting finishes. Around 895 qualifying matches will be played within the first 2 days of the tournament. The players are seen putting their best efforts to qualify for the main draws, and this gives us a vision of ‘badminton on rise in india”, he noted.

Among the qualification seeds to progress in girls singles were Tara Shah [1], Rutvi Baloni [2], Ilishaa Pal [3], Prashansa Bonam [4], A Bhonsle Driti [5], Jiya Rawat [6], Adita Rao [8] and Priyanka Pant [13]. In boys singles, Abhishek Mondalika Venkat [1], Himanish Das [4], Amrit Mohanty [6], Gagan [8], Shourya Katoch [17] and Dhruv Negi [26] have marched ahead.

The tournament is being organised by Goa Badminton Association under the aegis of Badminton Association of India, and in collaboration with North Goa District Badminton Association and Sports Authority of Goa.
