APPRENTICESHIP OPPORTUNITIES OUTNUMBERING CANDIDATES, CHIEF MINISTER URGES YOUTH TO REGISTER

Apprenticeship opportunities have presently outnumbered the registered candidates willing to join the recently-notified Chief Minister’s Apprenticeship Policy 2023. The scheme will be rolled out on first-come first-served basis with the target being 10,000 apprentices to be handed the offer letters on July 15.

Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant revealed that there are currently 2700 apprenticeship opportunities in 416 of government establishments; whereas the private sector has so far registered 4885 opportunities. On the other hand, 1200 candidates have registered on the National Apprenticeship Portal (NAP) www.apprenticeshipindia.gov.in

The Chief Minister held a Live interaction  via a webinar titled ‘Effective utilisation of Apprenticeship in government and private establishments’ on Saturday. The initiative of the Directorate of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, the webinar drew the participation from various departments officials, panchayats, Swayampurna Mitras, and beneficiaries.

CM urged youth including dropouts to register on the NAP to take benefit of this skilling initiative. “I call on Goan youth who have completed their academic courses or are pursuing correspondence courses, to register for apprenticeship on the portal. Five thousand apprentices will be drawn into government establishments by 15th July. It will be a one-year contract between the skill development ministry and the candidate. The other five thousand apprentices will get into the Private sector.”

The Chief Minister also praised the Swayampurna mitras and panchayat network for facilitating learner’s licence camps in various villages, taking the schemes to divyangs; animal husbandry and fisheries programmes to benefit the farmers and various other initiatives.

Director of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, S. S. Gaonkar appealled to all Swayampurna Mitras to see that the candidates register by asking them to take the opportunity which is available across all the government establishments. “The selection by the government departments will be on first come first served basis. The Apprenticeship Training of one year will be considered as work experience in any government as well as private establishments,” he added.

Assistant Apprenticeship Advisor Samrat Naik Gaonkar explained the key aspects of the apprenticeship scheme.

“Each government establishment including departments shall engage apprentices in a band of 2.5 to 15% of the total sanctioned strength of the establishment. 5% reserved for freshers in case of 15% engaged. The Stipend payable to apprentices per month will range from Rs 8000 to Rs 13,000 per month depending on their academic status,” he elucidated.
