IM Ethan Vaz (ELO 2522) has added yet another National medal to his tally, as he emerged silver-medalist at the under-17 Nationals at Rajpath club, Ahmedabad.
Held from 30th March to 7th April 2026, the prestigious event saw the top seed playing against the Najdorf Sicilan defence of FM Viresh Sharnarthi (2301)of Maharastra in the last round. IM Ethan gave the lower seed a lesson in attacking play and the opponent facing a mate threat, resigned in 39 moves.
A restrained Ethan Vaz played cautiously in the tournament to remain unbeaten as a loss to lower rated opponent would have made him lose rating points.
Dev Patel, Secretary, All India Chess Federation & President ,Gujarat State Chess Association, graced the occasion. Krishna Gadia ,Secretary ,Gujarat State Chess Assoication, Organising Secretary Bhavesh Patel were also present.
FM Nandish V.S of Tamil Nadu won the tournament with 9.5 points defeating
overnight leader Madhvendra Pratap Singh (2353) of Madhya Pradesh.
