In a concerted effort to elevate art education within the state, the Dinanath Dalal Memorial Art Education Centre in Ponda, Goa, collaborated with the Goa Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education to organise a dynamic art workshop. The event, held at Bambolkar’s Art Gallery on September 30, 2023, welcomed art teachers from government and government-aided high schools from across Goa.
The workshop commenced with a melodious rendition by noted Goan singer, Gautami Kamat Bambolkar, accompanied by flutist Premanand Chari, setting the stage for a day of artistic enlightenment.
Shridhar Kamat Bambolkar, the founder of the Dinanath Dalal Memorial Art Education Centre, warmly welcomed the guests and art teachers, signalling the beginning of a day filled with inspiration and knowledge sharing.
The esteemed Chief Guest, Deep Karapurkar, Art aficionado, emphasised the critical role of art education and advocated for the mandatory presence of art teachers in every school. He highlighted the importance of nurturing creativity and sensitivity in students, underlining the transformative potential of art in shaping young minds.
Bhagirath Shetye, Chairman of the Goa Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education and the President of the event, spoke passionately about the Board’s dedication to enhancing the status of art as an academic subject. He outlined their efforts in curriculum development and expressed the ambition to integrate art into the academic mainstream.
The first session featured five resourceful individuals who conducted lectures and demonstrations.
Deepak Gaad provided valuable insights into effective classroom teaching and lesson planning. Anand Narvekar demonstrated craft techniques, while Dilesh Hazare shed light on head studies. Sagar Naik Mule explored indigenous Kavi art, and Praveen Naik delved into still life techniques.
In the evening session, Salman Sharif, the head of ‘Image Minds,’ a creative education company from Chennai, introduced innovative methods and tools aimed at cultivating a technologically savvy generation. His presentation emphasised the integration of technology with art education, aligning with the evolving educational landscape.
The event was hosted by noted artist and columnist Naguesh Rao Sardessai, adding a vibrant touch to the proceedings. The art workshop not only provided a platform for knowledge exchange and skill enhancement but also served as a catalyst for the growth and development of art education in Goa, promising a brighter future for the artistic community and its aspiring artists.
