PANAJI: Ayush Nilesh Shirodkar (Elo Rating 1528) of Salcete Taluka Chess Association won the top prize in ‘Category C’ (below-1600 Rating) chess tournament at Gitam University, Visakhapatnam. The tournament, which was part of the Grandmaster event, was organised by Andhra Pradesh Chess Association.
A total of 475 players from across the country and some international players participated in the event. The second prize was won by Raghav V of Tamil Nadu and the third place went to Gnanaseelan Jude Dorison of Sri Lanka.
The tournament was held from 15th to 17th June 2022 where Ayush drew with Raghav V of Tamil Nadu in the last (Tenth) round to remain unbeaten. In the penultimate round, he beat Samarateja K of Telangana. This was the first major victory in an all-India tournament for the Rosary College student. Ayush received the winner’s trophy along with a cash prize of Rs 50,000. The prizes were handed over by Tournament Director K.V.Sharma, President of Andhra Pradesh Chess Association, states a press note issued by president of Salcete Taluka Chess Association, Ashesh Keni.
